Cutting red tape and aligning policies to make working with local government simpler have been two key goals of the forum’s policy and bylaws workstream.
So far we’ve identified nearly 300 policies (more than half the total when we started) that have been or will be deleted to reduce red tape. We’re looking to cut more and also ditch unnecessary bylaws.
We’ve created a shared significance and engagement policy for the issues we need to consult communities on, and it’s now been adopted by most councils nationally – the good work in Waikato is being picked up elsewhere.
We’ve got a range of other initiatives underway to help make things simpler for the general public and businesses.
